Common Rules and Formats for Tournaments

25 Oct

With the introduction of hardcore tournaments I decided to write a brief on various rule formats out there.

Hardcore. WR/TE at RB and can have running plays. Lurching legal.

Softcore. WR/TE cannot have running plays besides a reverse. No lurching.

Radio Station. Often have no playbook changes. Coined after the 103.3 the Edge tourneys in Buffalo.

Players Championship. Changes the call matchup once per tournament to you can only use a matchup once per tournament regardless of who calls it.

Tier system. Any tournament that uses a tier system for matchup calls.

Matchup call. A coin toss is used to split up who calls the matchup, team and controller. Most popular system makes the coin toss winner player 1 and caller of the matchup.

Team Draft. Teams are drafted for the elimination portion of a tourney and you use that team the rest of the tournament.
