NEW YORK CITY 8 10/20/2018

1 Oct

The New York Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament will take place for the eighth consecutive year in Astoria, Queens, on October 20th, 2018.  This year’s tournament will take place at Raven’s Head Public House at 3804 Broadway in Astoria, near Steinway Street. Registration is at 10 AM and play starts at 11 AM. There is a 20% discount if you sign up by October 8th.

Each year, 30-40 participants square off in pool play in which they are guaranteed to face 3-4 other competitors to vie for seeding.  All players are moved to a single elimination bracket, with a series of play-in games for those who don’t win their pool.  Each pool winner has the advantage of receiving at least one bye and an automatic bid to the sweet sixteen. There are raffle prizes throughout the day and the top three competitors split the pot and take home a trophy.

The first Tournament took place in 2007 as a one-off event. When the tournament was revived as an annual affair, it has taken place every October since 2011. There has been a new champion nearly every year with the only repeat title coming from Matt DeGeorge of Tannersville, PA, who won the tournament in consecutive years (2013, 2014).
